Thoughts

Thoughts

Thoughts means ideas about anything. These thoughts are formed after a long experience, thinking, period of observation and pondering over that "anything". Although you can also form your own ideas about something, but the world may not listen to them, because of your lack of experience, immature thinking, and a short period of observation and pondering.

Sometimes it is not necessary to agree with these thoughts but to disagree with them you must be knowledgeable and experienced enough to contradict them.

How to read them: Go to one page and read only one or two thoughts, or a collection of thoughts on one topic. Try to understand them, try to think over them from several aspects; discuss them among your friends and your elders and collect their own ideas about it; read something about it if you can; until you are exhausted and decide its applicability in the life. If it is applicable, practice it and see its effects as how do you feel by practicing it. You cannot know its effects in a short period of time. So go on practicing until you have several experiences to discard it, otherwise there is no harm in practicing it.

In the meantime read other thoughts and go through the same process... You may do this on a weekly basis...

Some notes are given in red under some thoughts to explain them better.

Game No 2:
Laddoo for Guests

One day Raam had five guests in late evening. Everybody had taken his dinner so no food was left. So Raam offered them only Laddoo. Raam called one guest and offered him some Laddoo. He ate some, and left some. Then Raam called the second guest and offered him the leftover Laddoo adding the same number of Laddoo to them. That guest also ate some and left some Laddoo.

Then Raam called the third guest. Again Raam added the same number of Laddoo to the leftover Laddoo and offered to the third guest. This guest also ate some and left some Laddoo. Then Raam called fourth guest and did the same as he did with others. He also ate some and left some. Raam again added the same number of Laddoo to the leftover Laddoo and offered to the fifth guest. He ate all the Laddoo and went to sleep.

When they all got up in the morning, they found that all ate the same number of Laddoo. Tell us how many Laddoo each guest ate? If you cannot tell check the Answer Page.

Game No 4
How Many Chapaatiyaan?

One day Ram, Shyaam and Sundar went for a picnic. There Raam made Chapaatiyaan. When he finished making Chapaatiyaan, Shyaam and Sundar went to sleep. Raam divided the Chapaatiyaan in three equal parts, 1 remained so he gave it to a dog. He ate his share and kept the other two parts in a pot. He was tired, so he also went to sleep.

Now Shyaam woke up, he saw that Ram and Sunder were sleeping, so he distributed the Chapaatiyaan in three equal parts, 1 remained so he gave it to a dog. He ate his share and kept the other two parts in the same pot and went to sleep again.

Now Sunder woke up, he saw that Ram and Shyaam were sleeping, so he distributed the Chapaatiyaan in three equal parts, 1 remained so he gave it to a dog. He ate his share and kept the other two parts in the same pot and went to sleep again.

In the evening all woke up together, took out the Chapaatiyaan, distributed in three equal parts, 1 remained so gave it to a dog, and ate them all.

Now tell:
How many Chapaatiyaan Raam made?
How many Chapaatiyaan Ram, Shyaam and Sundar ate in total?
And how many Chapaatiyaan dog ate?

To know the answer of these questions go to Answers Page.

Game No 5:
How to Arrange Horses?

Raam had 32 horses. His servant used to tie them such that from every side Raam could count them 12. One day Shyaam came and asked Raam's servant to give him 4 horses for one day, promising him that he will return 8 horses instead of 4 horses. The servant said, "Raam counts his horses 12, from every side, every morning. I do not know how I will arrange them like this, if you have taken 4, and even afterwards when you have returned 8 horses. If you tell me the way, you may take 4 horses." Shyaam said, "No problem" and he told him the way to arrange them in such a way that from every side they could be counted as 12. HOW? Check on the Answers Page.

Answer to Game No 1: Calculate the addition of 1 to 10 numbers?

Add the first number and last number, Then multiply it with the half of the last number. For example:

addition of first and last number: 1 + 10 = 11
multiply by half of the last number: (1 + 10) x 10/2
so 11 x 5 = 55

Answer to Game No 2: Laddoo for Guests

These questions are solved from the end.

The 5th guest ate 16 Laddoo, it means the 4th guest left 8 Laddoo.
The 4th guest also ate 16 Laddoo, so it means that he was offered 16 + 8 = 24 Laddoo. He ate 16 and left 8.
Since the 4th guest received 24 Laddoo, it means the 3rd guest left 12 Laddoo. He was offered 12 + 16 = 28 Laddoo.
Since the 3rd guest received 28 Laddoo, it means the 2nd guest left 14 Laddo. So he ate 16 and left 12.
Since the 2nd guest left 14 Laddo, and we know that he ate 16 Laddoo, he was offered 30 Laddoo. It means the 1st guest left 15 Laddoo.
Now the 1st guest also ate 16 Laddoo, so he was offered 31 Laddoo. He ate 16 and left 15 Laddoo.

1st guest was offered 31 Laddoo, he ate 16, left 15
2nd guest was offered 15 + 15 = 30, he ate 16, left 14
3rd guest was offered 14 + 14 = 28, he ate 16, left 12
4th guest was offered 12 + 12 = 24, he ate 16, left 8
5th guest was served with 8 + 8 = 16, he ate all, and went to sleep.

Answer to Game No 3: Telling the Addition of 5 Lines of 5 Digits Each Without Adding Them

Tell your friends that you could tell them the addition of 5 lines of 5 digit numbers without adding them. The condition is that they could write first 3 lines but the last 2 lines you will write.

So ask your partner to write a number of 5 digits. Now you draw a horizontal line a bit below (leaving the space for other 4 lines) and write a number thus: Subtract 2 from that number (or from the last 2 digits) and write that number starting with 2.

Now ask him to write the other two lines of 5 digit numbers below the first one. Now it is your turn to write the last two lines. Write your first line thus, that the friend's 2nd line and your line add to 99999. In the same way you write your second line too making the addition of friend's 3rd line and yours as 99999. Now the addition of all these 5 lines will have the same addition as you wrote before. Example:

Ram's first number 34576
Ram's second number 65743
Ram's third number 45870
your second line 34256 (making 99999 adding second line
your third line 54129 (making 99999 adding third line
_________________________________
234574

In the same way you can add 7 lines, or 9 lines, or 11 lines. In 7 lines, subtract 3 and keep 3 before the addition. In 9 lines, subtract 4 and keep 4 before the addition. In 11 lines subtract 5, and keep 5 before the addition. Leaving the first line aside, your lines and your friend's line must be of equal number. And your lines must be the complementary lines to his making each line as 99999.

Answer to Game No 4

Law: Whatever number of people are involved in the game, multiply that number with the same number, same number of times, such as:
3 x 3 x 3 x 3 = 81

Now whatever number of people are there, subtract 1 from that number, and subtract the resultant from the above number
81 - (3 - 1 =) 2 = 79 Chapaatiyaan were made

Now keep dividing it among the number of people:

79 x 1/3 = 26 for Ram, 1 remaining for dog, 52 were kept
52 x 1/3 = 17 for Shyam, 1 remaining for dog, 34 were kept
34 x 1/3 = 11 for Sunder, 1 remaining for dog, 22 were kept
22 x 1/3 = 7 for each three, 1 remaining for dog.

Raam ate total Chapaatiyaan 26 + 7 = 33
Shyaam ate total Chapaatiyaan 17 + 7 = 24
Sundar ate total Chapaatiyaan 11 + 7 = 18
Dog got 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 4 Chapaatiyaan

Answer to Game No 5: How to Arrange Horses?

There were 32 horses which were standing like this:

4

4 4
4 4
4 4 4

Now remained 28 horses, they were arranged like this:

5 2 5
2 2
5 2 5

Then they were 36 horses, they were arranged like this:

3 6 3
6 6
3 6 3

Now Ram could count 12 horses from every side every time. So he could not know when the horses were taken away and when the horses were returned.

Gapp

Gapp Suno Bhai Gapp

Many people are good at telling things in a such a big way that even a fool can understand that he or she is telling lies. These talks in India are called "Gapp". An English equivalent word for it is 'gossip'. Although the listeners understand that it is not true, but still they listen to them, enjoy them and laugh at them. Some are of very low level and some of them are very sophisticated. Whosoever tells the "Gapp" is called "Gappee".

Here are some "Gapp":

Gapp 1:

One day two Gappee got together to tell their Gapp. One Gappee said, "My father had such a large barn that it could hold thousands of cattle."

Second man said, "This is nothing big. My father had such a tall wooden log that whenever he wanted, he would shake the clouds with it and got rains."

The first Gappee was surprised to know that. He asked, "But where would he keep his log?"

The second Gappee replied, "In your father's barn."

Gapp 2:

There was man who was a very big Gappee. Sometimes his Gapp was so unnatural that people had to tell him that he should speak the truth, not the Gapp. He had a friend also. One day the Gappee asked his friend to help him by controlling him to tell the Gapp in limits. The friend agreed, but he asked that how could he help him. The Gappee said, "When you think that I am going out of limits, just warn me by pricking me in my thigh so that nobody can notice it. And I will understand your hint." The friend said "Good" and they both went to a group of people to talk. The group was talking on many topics. People were telling their adventurous stories.

Now this Gappee couldn't resist. He started telling his own adventure. "Once I went for hunting a lion. I sat on a platform made on the trees, and waited for the lion to appear. Lion was so much scared of me that he did not appear until midnight. When he appeared, I saw that the lion was very big."

People knew that he was a very big Gappee, so one man asked to tease him, "How long it was?" Gappee said, "Oh! it must have been at least 50 yards long." The man again asked, "With tail or without tail?" This time Gappee replied, "I never measure the tail. It was 50 yards long without tail."

Now his friend thought, it was too much, and it was the time to warn him, so he secretly pricked him in his thigh. The Gappee understood the warning, so he said, "Maybe I said a bit high about it. It was 50 yards long with its tail." The friend thought this was still more than natural, so he pricked again in his thigh.

The Gappee understood that he was still out of limits, so he said, "Maybe it was not 50 yards long, but surely it was 30 yards long." His friend got restless, and thinking that he was still out of his limits, pricked again in his thigh. The Guppee reduced the lion's length to 20 yards. Again his friend warned him.

This time the Gappee got irritated and said to his friend, "Look! I have reduced its length a lot, now I cannot reduce it any more. After all it is a lion, not a rat."

Gapp 3:

During an International conference, three scientists, an American, a German, and an Indian were talking and bragging about the technological advances their respective countries have achieved in the field of medicine.

The American said, - "In Washington, there was a baby boy born without arms so we attached artificial arms on him. And now that he's grown up and he has become a professional boxer and a gold medallist in the Olympics!"

The German replied, - "That's nothing compared to what we have achieved. Back in Berlin, there was a baby girl born without legs so we attached a pair of artificial legs on her. Now she is a three-time Olympics marathon gold medallist!"

The Indian interjected, - "Is that all you have achieved, just gold medallists? In Patna, Bihar, we had a baby boy born without a HEAD! We attached a COCONUT and called him Laloo and now that he has grown up, he is the Chief Minister of Bihar!"

Your Child's Special Needs

Routine medical care is important for all children, including those with congenital heart disease. Your pediatric cardiologist will want your pediatrician or family doctor to check your child regularly. A child with a heart defect usually can get through most common childhood illnesses as safely as children with normal hearts. Your child doesn't need antibiotics for every infection just because of the congenital heart defect.

Before or after surgery, your child should have routine care and the standard "shots," or immunizations, at the ages doctors recommend for all children. Your child may also need additional immunizations, such as for influenza.

Checkups With Your Pediatric Cardiologist
To be sure that your child is making good progress, periodic heart checkups are necessary. Usually, they're scheduled more often (days, weeks, months) just after the diagnosis or surgery and less often later. Depending upon your child's problem, periodic testing may be needed. These tests may include:

  • Blood test
  • Standard electrocardiogram
  • 24-hour ambulatory electrocardiogram (Holter scan)
  • Chest X-ray
  • Doppler/echocardiogram or
  • Exercise testing.

Some children need follow-up cardiac catheterization.

Preventing Bacterial Endocarditis
Bacterial endocarditis (BE) is an infection caused by bacteria that enter the bloodstream and settle in the heart lining, a heart valve or a blood vessel.

Although BE is uncommon, most children with a heart defect have a greater risk of developing it. The American Heart Association recently updated guidelines for preventing endocarditis and concluded that there is no convincing evidence that links dental, gastrointestinal or genitourinary tract procedures with the development of BE. The prophylactic use of antibiotics prior to a dental procedure is now recommended ONLY for those patients with the highest risk of adverse outcome resulting from BE, such as patients with a prosthetic cardiac valve, previous BE, or those with specific forms of congenital heart disease. The committee recommends antibiotic prophylaxis prior to a dental procedure for congenital heart disease (CHD) patients with:

  • Unrepaired cyanotic CHD, including palliative shunts and conduits
  • Completely repaired congenital heart defect with prosthetic material or device, whether placed by surgery or by catheter intervention, during the first six months after the procedure
  • Repaired CHD with residual defects at the site or adjacent to the site of a prosthetic patch or prosthetic device (which inhibit endothelialization)
  • Cardiac transplantation recipients who develop heart valve dysfunction

Prophylaxis is recommended because endothelialization of prosthetic material occurs within six months after the procedure.

Antibiotic prophylaxis solely to prevent BE is no longer recommended.

Your pediatric cardiologist will give you more information about preventing BE. That might include the American Heart Association wallet card. By showing this card to your dentist, pediatrician, family doctor or other physician, the proper antibiotic and dose can be given. This dose will vary according to your child's weight, heart condition and the planned procedure.

Amount of Activity
Most children with a congenital heart defect can be fully active. They don't need restrictions. In fact, pediatric cardiologists encourage children to do physical activity that helps keep their hearts fit and can be enjoyed for a lifetime. Such healthful activities include swimming, bicycling, running, rope jumping and tennis. In a very few specific heart conditions, a pediatric cardiologist may advise that a child avoid some strenuous physical activities, such as competitive sports.

For Women of Childbearing Age
Young women with congenital heart defects often have three special concerns as they think about having a baby. "Is my heart strong enough for a pregnancy? What should I use for birth control? Will my child have a heart problem?

Most women with a mild heart defect who've had successful surgery can have a normal pregnancy and delivery. In some cases (for example, women with cyanosis or a major heart problem), pregnancy is dangerous and should be avoided. Your cardiologist can help with these concerns.

When thinking about birth control, each case is different. Some women should avoid the "pill" and use other forms of birth control instead. Your cardiologist can give advice about selecting a contraceptive method.

In the general population, the chance of having a child with a heart defect is about 1 in 100. The chance is slightly higher among women who have a heart defect and among sisters and brothers of children with heart disease. When a baby has a heart problem, it resembles the mother's own defect in half of the cases.

A pregnant woman should follow a nutritious diet and avoid smoking and drinking alcohol. She should also have her doctor approve any medicine she uses.

Financial Support
Diagnosing and treating congenital heart defects with surgery is costly. Your child may need many specialists and several days in the hospital. If hospitalization and care is at a center far from your home, you'll need money for travel, food and lodging. Because the medical expenses of cardiac care are often extremely high, some families - even those with health insurance - need help to pay them. Each state has an agency to help eligible families meet their medical expenses. Your doctor can give more information about the program in your state and help you apply. The amount of financial aid you can get depends upon the rules for eligibility in your state, your financial situation and insurance policy, and the cost of cardiac care.

Take a look at your health insurance. Most families are covered under a group plan bought by an employer. Under such a plan, all family members must be covered even though they have preexisting health problems. If you're thinking about changing jobs, find out your child's eligibility for health coverage by the new employer, or if your child can stay covered under your current policy. Don't stop your existing health insurance until you know your child is covered by the new policy.

Special Educational Needs
Education is important for all children. Fortunately, almost all children with congenital heart defects can attend regular schools. Most children don't have any physical or mental limitations that prevent them from participating fully in the school program. In rare cases, a child has special educational needs. Most school districts, with the aid of their school nurses, can evaluate these children and make changes to meet their needs. For example, the school may need to limit a child's stair climbing or provide special transportation.

Vocation
For most people with congenital heart defects, job choices are not limited. Young adults with heart defects have entered a variety of professions and occupations. A few people may have a limited capacity for exercise or low endurance. Job counselors can help them choose less active types of work.

High school and college counselors can help a person select a vocation. Sometimes the state vocational rehabilitation program may be needed. Such help might be needed for those rare patients whose ability to earn an income has been impaired by a physical handicap due to a heart problem.
